When it comes to  wholesome family entertainment over brunch there are not many options in Delhi NCR. This is where Cafe Uno gets brownie points. The Champagne coupled with the decadent spread and child  activities makes this a Sunday destination, says Deebashree Mohanty

Apart from the bathed-in-winter-sun al fresco and plush lawns at Cafe Uno what strikes you most about this place is its expanse and the fresh aroma of food which is not too overpowering yet very appetizing. Your mood for the afternoon is set as soon as you are seated comfortably for the brunch.

Although the hotel is right outside a busy street in the heart of town, not a sound gets by. “It’s like magic! We were very concerned about the traffic being too intrusive and getting on the nerves of our guests. But thankfully that is not a problem. We have water bodies dotting the place which soothe the noise away. And because the sitting area is huge, people are quite dispersed which means there is no noise coming your way. We want our guests to relax and enjoy their champagne and our hospitality without any disturbance,” executive chef Martin Bracker says. With the brunch menu on display be rest assured you will end up doing exactly that.

live grills — including a separate one for Indian kebabs, unlimited champagne and a lavish buffet spread is what awaits you at Café Uno, the all-day dining restaurant of Shangri la. The brunch features an international cheese counter, exotic seafood bar, sushi, antipasti platters, a freshly baked bread station and Indian and Western delicacies to choose from. Watch carefully and you will even notice a ‘without onion and garlic’ counter there. “The spread is quite decadent. We have a no onion garlic section because we know Indian preferences. There is a lot of research that has gone into deciding the menu for this very special winter brunch and I am happy that we have full house on most weekends,” Bracker tells you.

It is a good idea to start with the grills and pick your meat or veggies after consulting with the grill specialist. He is there to guide you about the accompaniments with the grilled prawns or the basa fillet. Half way to your meal you wonder how is the meat so tender yet juicyIJ “The trick lies in how long you allow the meat to marinate before the actual process kicks in. We are particular about that. If the meat is chewy it takes away from the preparation,” the chef says. Martin tells you that there is a night staff who prepare everything for the noon in advance. Coming to the Indian tawa preparations head straight for the mutton seekh kebab which is out of this world. The chat counter can be given a pass as you head towards the antipasti and salad bars. Just be sure you leave some place for the main course because there is a lot waiting!

Once there, dig into the Thai curries or the Indian novelties like Dhania Keema which is the speciality for the day. “We keep changing the items so that our guests sample different dishes each time they visit us,” Bracker informs. If you are a parent looking for a relaxed time for the entire family, a brunch here must feature in your to-do list. The restaurant organises a special kid’s club with a bouncycastle, ball pool and swings so that the little ones are happy and involved. They can even bake their own cookies!

This Sunday, make it an outing for your future album moments!
