BJP president Amit Shah said that demonetisation of high value notes has jolted the Samajwadi Party, Mayawati, Mamata Banarjee and Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav for spreading canards to mislead the people. Shah was addressing a Parivartan Rally at Shahjehanpur on Saturday.
The BJP leader said Akhilesh Yadav has conceded defeat before the next Assembly polls which is indicated by Samajwadi Party seeking alliance with the Congress.
“Even if the SP, Congress, BSP and Rashtriya lok Dal join hands, they can not prevent the BJP from winning the UP Assembly polls with a two-thirds majority,’’ he stressed.
“Demonetisation has come as a shock to Mamata Banerjee, Mayawati, Kejriwal and SP leaders and their facial glow has suddenly disappeared from their faces. They should explain to the people as to why they have been rattled the most by the ban,’’ said Shah.
“Till November 7, these leaders criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi for doing nothing to dig out black money and now they were questioning the ban on currency,’’ said the BJP chief.
Alleging that Opposition parties were not interested in eliminating black money from politics, Shah said, “At the all party meeting before the winter session of Parliament, the PM had proposed a debate in the House for simultaneous polls. But the Opposition were not interested in eliminating black money from the political system.’’
The BJP chief said that UP can never develop and realise its full potential until dynasty and caste- based parties like the SP and BSP were eliminated from the politics of the State.
Shah said, “The people of UP are caught between the devil and the deep sea. The State is caught between ‘bua’ (Mayawati) and ‘bhateeja’ (Akhilesh) and also the feud between the uncle and nephew of SP. All these have ruined the State.’’
The BJP president alleged that land and mining mafia were ruling the roost in UP and the ruling SP is full of tainted leaders like Mokhtar Ansari, Afzal Ansari, Atiq Ahmed and Azam Khan. If the SP brass decide to weed out criminals from within, the party would cease to exist.’’
“You have given the SP and the BSP the chance to rule the state for 15 years but they have failed you. Both have indulged in self aggrandisement and could not look beyond immediate family interest. The state can develop only if the BJP is voted to power with a two thirds majority in the Assembly,’’ said Amit Shah.
Accusing CM Akhilesh Yadav of running a disinformation campaign against the currency ban and misleading people, Shah said, “Instead of criticising the ban, Akhilesh Yadav needs to give account of his performance and what he did for the people of the state in the last five years.’’ He charged that the masses were struggling for basics like power and farmers were not getting minimum support price for their produce which has forced migration to big cities.
Defending demonetisation, Shah said, “We are aware of the hardships faced by you due to currency ban. The PM has promised that troubles will be over in 50 days and I assures you that the 50-day discomfort will reform the country for the next 50 years.’’
Raising the Triple Talaq issue, the BJP chief said, “The PM is committed to protecting rights and dignity of Muslim women. But the SP, BSP and Congress are silent on the issue. I appeal to the Muslim women to enquire from leaders of these parties as to what they have done for protecting their rights and dignity.’’
