Noida 'powerless' against storm's fury

Several Noida residents may continue to suffer for the next 24 hours as the authority may take some more time to restore power supply in the region. A senior official of the Power Department said in Friday’s fury, several electric poles were damaged and cables snapped.

As heavy squall hit NCR on Friday, the region, particularly Noida, plunged into darkness. With concerted efforts, power supply in most parts of the area was restored by midnight. Several parts of the city however, remained without power till Saturday morning. The worst-hit areas are Sectors 39, 40 and 41. Meanwhile, several residents temporarily shifted residence to their relatives in Delhi and Ghaziabad. “last night, I slept in my car with the AC on. But I am going to stay with my relative in Delhi and will come back only after the power situation normalises in Noida. It is impossible to stay without power in this extreme weather,” said Anirudh Chaudhary, senior executive with a private airline.
