In a move to ensure smooth and hassle-free flow of traffic in the city, Noida Authority has created a ‘Traffic Cell’. The cell comprising Noida Traffic Police, Road Transport Department and Noida Authority, will monitor the overall traffic condition in the entire city and will devise ways and means to improve it. Time synchronisation through all red-lights, management of public transport buses and earmarking the routes for tempos, taxis and other public transports will be the main functions of the cell. The newly created cell will be fully operational from the mid of the March.
The cell will work under a senior official of Noida Authority and the representatives of transport department and traffic police will be part of it. To make the cell effective, Noida authority will convene a meeting with other concerned departments on March 11. The cell will the mandate to punish and prosecute public and private transport vehicles that are caught carrying passengers without valid permits. The cell will also ensure that the buses of public transport, allotted for running in the city only are not allowed to ply in the neighbouring districts.

The Uttar Pradesh State Transport Department (UPSRTC) has allotted 170 buses for the district while most of them run in other districts causing problems to the city commuters. To add to the traffic woes, over 50 percent of total red-lights in the city do not function properly that result in traffic snarls and its cascading effect could be seen on the city roads.
