Noida Authority to construct more underpasses at key traffic junctions

In a move to ensure smooth vehicular movements on the busy roads of the region, Noida Authority has decided to construct underpasses below the major traffic junctions.

The officials have selected three routes for this purpose. The routes are called 'Master Plan (MP) 1, 2 and 3'. The authority officials have announced the construction of four underpasses on MP-3 in first phase.

MP-1 connects DND flyway and Shoprix Mall in Sector 61. The road between Film City and Sector 60 is MP-2, while the road between Sector 37 and Sector 71 comes under MP-3.

The construction work of first underpass near City Centre Metro station is likely to be started from the first week of August and the entire work is expected to be completed within 18 months. Authority will spend `50 crore for this underpass.

According to senior authority officials, the entire stretch of MP-3 has four traffic signals: Sector 34, City Centre Metro station, junctions near Hoshiyarpur and Shashi chowk.

The Noida Authority has decided to construct all underpasses at traffic signals in four years. "As the vehicular volume is increasing by leaps and bounds, the need of the hour is to construct more than a dozen underpasses in the city. This move is also aimed at making the roads signal-free and the underpasses will cater to smooth flow of traffic, especially during the peak hours. The road near proposed underpasses will be widened before the construction is taken up. This will be done to facilitate vehicular movement," said MP Sharma, Senior Project Engineer of Noida Authority.

Currently, there are only four underpasses near Sector 15, 16, 18 and Botanical Garden Metro station.

The new underpasses will help in ensuring a hassle-free ride from Okhla Barrage to NH-24.
