Punjabi sensation Gippy Grewal talks to Sangeeta Yadav about his recently released movie Faraar and his aspirations to work with Aamir Khan

We know him better as the Punjabi singer who made it big as an actor in Pollywood (Punjabi cinema) and made his Bollywood debut with Second Hand Shaadi opposite Geeta Basra and Govinda’s daughter Tina Ahuja. Gippy Grewal is now hogging all the limelight with his second filmFaraar which got released last week.

“This is for the second time that I will be playing a double role. In Faraar, I am both an innocent student and a gangster And it has been an amazing experience. In fact, here I was made to jump into various  avatars, from a studios geek to a rough fighter,” he tells you, adding that this action thriller is one of the ideas which Jas Grewal has penned down as a script and Baljit Singh Deo has given it a new face to it with his direction.

Grewal was recently in the Capital for an event organised by AAS (a leading NPO in Delhi/NCR). The event saw many Punjabi greats descend on the stage to create awareness about Cervical Cancer, Save Girl Child & Educate the Girl to mark the Independence Day celebration with Punjabi Tashan.an event organised by AAS, a not-for-profit organisation.  charity performance at an awareness initiative  on cervical cancer and safety, health and education of child girl by AAS NGO.

Coming back to Faraar, the cinematography of the film has garnered a lot of praise. The  Punjabi movie has also been dubbed in Hindi. “We want to get ourselves to the level of Hollywood cinema which is a tall order but we are all striving very hard. We have many Hollywood technicians on board who keep teaching us the nuances of cinematography,” the actor says.

For the action scenes and stunts, Baljit (director) wanted him to perform the stunts by himself to give it natural look. Grewal had to undergo strict fitness regime. “I did 14 months workout to get six pack abs and had to make sure of my diet plan and daily workout for the rough look of the fighter. The stunts performed by me in the film were very difficult. Initially, I had  a lot of injuries while performing the stunts but gradually started enjoying them,” Grewal tells you.

Though his singing journey started in 2002, Grewal managed to grab a few headlines by dubbing for Jai Courtney’s character in A Good Day to Die Hard. Over the years, he feels that the entertainment industry has evolved and it only helped him evolve. “Music Industry now has a wider reach. That is mainly because of technology that has made everything very easy. It’s easier to reach out to people quickly in less time. As an actor, I’ve always learnt at every step.  With every new movie I learn something new from veteran co-stars like Dharmendra and others.
