Amid the on-going tussle between lt-Governor Najeeb Jung and the Delhi Government over appointment of Joint CP Mukesh Kumar Meena as the ACB chief, the AAP on Saturday claimed that not a single case has been registered after he took over the charge and the party will form squads to “expose” corruption in the national Capital.
Addressing a Press conference, senior AAP leader and party founder member Kumar Vishwas alleged that the position of the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) was getting “compromised” under the current officer.
“We will constitute units controlled by party volunteers if the Central Government and the lt-Governor try to weaken their anti-corruption movement. Since the formation of the AAP Government, around 150 FIRs have been registered and dozens of officers were suspended. However, ever since the ACB started looking into the 2002 CNG fitness case and name of the lt-Governor cropped up, he appointed Meena as the new chief. The credentials of Meena are doubtful as he has allegations against him,” he said.
Party’s Delhi unit convener Dilip Pandey said that the new ACB chief was “blocking” cases in which Delhi Police was involved. “We will have no option but to form squads comprising party volunteers and expose corruption in the city. We will tell people that the Centre is not allowing us to register an FIR against corruption,” he said.
“He has been blocking cases which are unfavourable to the Delhi Police,” Pandey added.
When asked about when the party’s pet project, Jan lokpal Bill will be introduced, Vishwas said, “The Chief Minister is reviewing the draft and it should be introduced (in Delhi legislative Assembly) next week.”
