The North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NMC) has suspended five engineers and two fourth-grade employees on Saturday for their alleged involvement in a bribery case.

The suspension orders were issued by NMC Commissioner PK Gupta. Those suspended include Superintending Engineer Rajesh Wadhwa, Executive Engineer AK Singh, Assistant Engineer RK Sethi, Junior Engineer Kapil Dev — all from Civil lines Zone and Assistant Engineer MK Gupta from Rohini Zone.

"In view of the preliminary report received from the Central Bureau of Investigations regarding irregularities in the Building Department of Civil lines Zone, the Corporation suspended the accused with immediate effect with pending criminal proceedings against them," said an officer of the Corporation.

The Commissioner further directed all the Deputy Commissioners and Engineers to ensure that no irregularity is carried out especially in sensitive departments like the Building Department.

Notably, CBI arrested them for accepting bribe to grant clearance for a banquet hall. According to the CBI, the engineers had sent two beldars for collecting bribe from the businessmen.
