The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Saturday filed a chargesheet before a designated court here against 10 alleged Hizbul Mujahideen terrorists, including self-styled chief of the terror outfit Syed Mohammed Yusuf Shah alias Syed Salahudeen and deputy commander Gulam Nabi Khan alias Amir Khan, both residents of Jammu & Kashmir but now based in Pakistan.

The accused persons, including the duo, have been chargesheeted for regular and systematic funding of Hizbul Mujahideen for carrying out terrorist activities. The case — RC-11/2011/NIA/DlI — was registered by NIA on October 25, 2011 alleging organised funding of HM for perpetrating terrorist activities in India.

“Investigation has established that under the cover of Jammu and Kashmir Affectees Relief Trust (JKART), Hizbul Mujahideen operatives based in Pakistan used to provide funds through different channels for terrorist activities in India,” the NIA said in its chargesheet. During the course of investigation, two accused persons Mohammad Shafi Shah alias Doctor Dawood and Talib lali alias Talib Hussain lali alias Waseem alias Abu Umer were arrested and the remaining 8 accused, based in Pakistan, were declared as proclaimed offenders by the court

The flow of funds raised and distributed by Hizbul Muajahideen was established during the investigation. Different channels used to send funds to Jammu and Kashmir by Hizbul Mujahideen like Hawala, banking network, cross border trade et al were investigated, which brought on record that accused Mohammad Shafi Shah collected Rs 13 crore and distributed it for carrying out terrorist activities at the behest of the Hizbul Mujahideen, the NIA alleged.

All the accused persons have been chargesheeted under Section 120-B (criminal conspiracy) read with 121-A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and relevant Sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Further investigation of the case is going on to unearth more evidence on funding and involvement of more HM operatives, the NIA said in a statement.
