New broom Ambani produces sweeping changes

After Churchgate in downtown Mumbai, industrialist Anil Ambani on Saturday took the Swachchh Bharat campaign to Badrinath and Kedarnath in Uttarakhand, and appealed to the people to particularly keep temple towns clean.

Ambani, who was among the nine people personally invited by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to join the Clean India campaign and also praised for his contributions in the same sphere, said there were two reasons why he was visiting the two holy towns. “First, I want to take the blessings of Badrinath and Kedarnath. Second, we do not keep our temples as clean as they ought to be,” Ambani said.

“So let’s all take this responsibility from today and keep our religious places clean,” said Anil, cleaning the area around Churchgate station in downtown Mumbai last week along with his friends.“let’s make each and every religious place of worship clean to accomplish the Swachchh Bharat mission,” he added.

Ambani had invited nine other personalities, including Asian Games gold medallist pugilist Mary Kom, actors Amitabh Bachchan, Hrithik Roshan and Nagarjuna, writers Shobhaa Dé and Prasoon Joshi and tennis player Sania Mirza to take the Swachchh Bharat campaign forward.

Applauding the initiative, Modi had tweeted, “Wonderful effort by Anil Ambani, who cleaned the area around Churchgate Station in Mumbai along with his friends #MyCleanIndia.”

Anil Ambani was among nine eminent people — other names being cricketer Sachin Tendulkar, actors Salman Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Kamal Haasan, yoga guru Ramdev and Congress leader Shashi Tharoor — picked by the Prime Minister to propagate the Swachchh Bharat mission. “I am honoured to be invited by our respected Prime Minister to join the Swachchh Bharat Abhiyan,” Ambani said in a statement, adding, “I dedicate myself to this movement and invite nine other leading Indians to join me in the Clean India campaign.”
