Software engineer-turned-dancer Sonali Bhadurai speaks with SHAlINI SAKSENA about her YouTube channel and how she ended up being a dancer

Why and how did you, a software engineer, become a dancerIJ

For starters, I was a typical child  from a typical family who had to get into the rat race of engineering. I knew from the beginning that I wanted a career in dancing but ended up being a software engineer at Infosys. Here, I have to give credit to the dancing team at Infosys, Crazy legs that kept me going with my dancing. It so happened that I randomly decided to upload videos on YouTube and ended up getting viral. So, here I am.

Tell us about your YouTube channel.

The name of my dance channel is liveToDance with Sonali. It literally means live To Dance because that’s exactly what I am doing. I regularly upload dance routines and tutorials on it so that people who live to dance can enjoy it.

What got you interested in danceIJ

Dance caught my interest from an early age. I knew I was born a dancer and that I wanted to have a career in it.

After you quit your job, did you join dance classesIJ

I didn’t join any dance class. Since my childhood, my method of learning was via videos. So I did the same after quitting my job. I made videos for YouTube.

How did your family react to thisIJ

My family was supportive and has faith in me.

Are there any plans for BollywoodIJ

I can’t say what future  and life has in store for me.

What else is keeping you busy these daysIJ

The previous months were packed with preparations for the YouTube Fan Fest, a few collaborations and videos. Right now, I am taking dance workshops in different cities.
