The National legal Services Authority has claimed to have wiped off almost one lakh cases at the pre-litigation stage pending in various district courts and High Courts across the country that got settled at a National lok Adalat held on Saturday.
This is the fifth lok Adalat organised by NAlSA, the results of which have been encouraging, NAlSA officials said. Most of the cases decided on Saturday related to civil disputes largely related to public utilities such as electricity, water and telephone services, the officials added.
According to a NAlSA statement, more than 93,000 pre- litigation cases and over 26,000 pending cases were settled in 26 States and Union Territories till reports last came in. This figure is expected to increase once data is made available from all the 26 State legal service authorities. Besides, the parties were able to arrive at an agreement to settle disputes worth over Rs 65 crore across the country.
The National lok Adalat, however, could not be held in the trial courts in Delhi and some other states including Tamil Nadu and Madhya Pradesh. The lok Adalat in Delhi district courts has been postponed to August 13 due to the recent changes in holiday schedule, the NAlSA press release said.
