One of the six arrested terrorists in Assam had training on jehad and he was instructed to work as a sleeper cell and to look for potential Muslim youth for recruitment.
Assam police, interrogating the six people arrested on Friday for their suspected terror links and involvement in the October 2 blast in West Bengal’s Burdwan, said this on Saturday while adding that the preliminary investigation have revealed that this is a part of the terror module operating under patronisation of Jamatul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB) that was involved in IED blast at Burdwan on October 2 last.
“One of the arrested persons Shaikhul Islam alias Abdulla is one of the important members of the module operating in Assam, and associate of Shakil Ahmed alias Shamin, a JMB activist who died in that incident of IED blast in Burdwan,” said a statement issued by the Assam police today.
“Shaikhul had training in jehad in Simulia madrasa of Burdwan and also in another madrasa in Murshidabad. Instruction was given to Shaikhul to remain as sleeper cell and to look for potential Muslim youth for motivation for jehad,” the statement said.
The preliminary investigation had also indicated that the Shakil Ahmed alias Shamin, who died during the Burdwan blast, used to visit Barpeta under cover of garment business for motivating Muslim people in the name of Pan-Islamism.
The other five members arrested includes Rafikul Islam (39), Md. Shiraj Ali Khan (53), Jahuruddin (60), Golam Usmani (23) and Sarbesh Ali (35), police said adding that investigation is on to identify those members of module and to arrest them.
