Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar on Saturday once again said that his comments made on Defence ministry issues in the native language of Konkani are often misinterpreted when they are translated into English by the media.
"I read one news item and I was shocked as to when I said this. I did not remember at which meeting I had said it. I started wondering if I was getting old. Then I realized that my memory is so good, I even remember who had I met where ten years back. Sometimes I may not remember the name, but I remember incidents, figures and what I had said exactly," Parrikar said, while speaking at a poll rally in Pernem assembly constituency in North Goa, located around 35 kms from Panaji.
"Then I realized that while translating from Konkani, he (reporter) translated it word to word. Every language has its uniqueness. I read the same news in Hindi, there was no confusion there, because it is a local language and it drew the correct meaning. But when the language is foreign, it can change the meaning, I realized this," Parrikar said, while explaining why he was limiting speaking on national issues when in Goa.
Parrikar during another poll rally on Friday had said that he had decided to stop commenting on Defence Ministry related issues due to the "confusion" caused when reporters translate his comments in Konkani into English.
On Friday, Parrikar had said that his comments on Pakistan had been misinterpreted by the English media.
