Absconder Javed Khan arrested after Gaya rally
In an embarrassment to Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, a murder accused who was at large shared dais with him at a public rally in Gaya on Friday, though he was later arrested and sent to jail.
According to sources, Javed Khan — former councillor of Gaya Municipality — shared dais with Nitish on Friday at a rally there but he was arrested after the rally was over.An arrest warrant issued against Javed by a Gaya court was pending since December.
The warrant was issued in connection with the murder of property dealer Naushad Khan in April last year. Khan was reportedly absconding ever since the arrest warrant was issued.
When Chief Minister Nitish Kumar came to Gaya on Friday to address a rally in favour of his party candidate Jitan Ram Manjhi, the absconding accused was with him at the dais. The apparently ‘unaware’ Nitish also addressed Khan in his speech. It is said that when a hue and cry was raised about a fugitive sharing dais with the Chief Minister, the local police came into action and arrested Javed Khan later in the evening.
He was later produced before Chief Judicial Magistrate KK Singh, who sent him to 14 days judicial custody.Meanwhile, the incident provided to be an opportunity for the Opposition parties to target the JD(U) and its leader Nitish Kumar.
“The incident itself speaks volume about the law and order situation in the State,” mocked State BJP leader and party candidate from Nawada lS constituency Giriraj Singh.
But, JD(U) leader and Minister in the Nitish Cabinet Vijay Chaudhary defended the Government saying that the moment the incident came to light he (Javed Khan) was arrested and sent to jail, “it shows the Government’s commitment to deal promptly with lawbreakers”.
