Prime Minister Narendra Modi has convened a maiden meeting of all NDA constituents on Monday to discuss the agenda and strategy for the Monsoon Session of Parliament where the Opposition has warned of a washout. The Monsoon Session begins on July 21 and ends on August 13. This is the first time PM Modi has called a meet of the ruling alliance since he stormed to power in May 2014.
It is learnt that the during the meeting of NDA constituents the Government and its floor managers will finalise a strategy to counter the attack from the Opposition which is planning to stall functioning of both houses over lalitgate, Vyapam Scam and grim situation in rural India as reflected in the Socio Economic Census recently. Besides, NDA Government’s foreign policy on Pakistan and Israel is also likely to face strong criticism by the Opposition parties.
While the Opposition will try to nail the Government, sources said that the Ministers and NDA MPs have been asked not be on the backfoot and instead be on the offensive to counter any charges from the Opposition.
With the session likely to be highly stormy it is unlikely that Government’s major legislative business will get through. But the BJP MPs have been asked to be prepared to participate in debates and discussions. Following Monday’s meeting with the PM NDA constituents will have a clearer plan for the session.
