In a big respite to Delhiites, the weather department on Saturday said the monsoon would likely hit the Capital by the end of this month, possibly by June 29. Weather department officials said Delhi would receive pre-monsoon showers on June 26 to June 28. Meanwhile, the national Capital reeled under hot and humid conditions on Saturday with both the maximum and minimum temperatures hovering four to five notches above the normal. The day temperature at Safdarjung observatory was marked at 41.7 degrees Celsius, four notches above normal. The evening, too, was reasonably warm as the minimum temperature rose five points above normal to settle at 32.7 degrees.

Meanwhile, the maximum temperature at Palam observatory was at 43.5 degrees while at Ayanagar, it was recorded at 42.4 degrees. The maximum was at 42.5 degrees in the Ridge area. As compared to Friday, when the temperature soared close to the 45 degree-mark at various observatories here, there was some respite for Delhiites due to partially cloudy skies in the latter part of the day.

Humidity in air was recorded between 33 and 56 per cent on Saturday after it had shot up to 70 per cent on Friday.

“There will be partly cloudy skies on Sunday; very light rain and thunderstorms may occur in some areas of the national Capital while the maximum and minimum may settle at 40 and 31 degrees, respectively,” said a MeT official.
