Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Saturday took a dig at Prime Minister Narendra Modi saying the PM merely talks about democracy but forgets about the farmers and labourers who make up its foundation.
“Modi talks about democracy but does not talk about our farmers and labourers, who run this democracy. He forgets them,” Rahul said during an interaction with a group of farmers from north India. The programme was organised by Youth Congress to “celebrate the victory” of farmers after the Government was “forced” to let the land Ordinance lapse in the face of vociferous protests by Opposition parties, prominently the Congress. “This is the victory of Congress. But it is the victory of farmers as well,” said Rahul. Congress president Sonia Gandhi, too, was present during the interaction in which about 400 farmers from Rajasthan, Delhi, Punjab, Haryana and Himachal Pradesh were present.
The Congress has planned a Kisan Mazdoor Samman Rally on September 20 to celebrate its `victory’ in forcing the Government to roll back the land Ordinance. The Congress has been taking credit for “compelling the BJP-led Government to go back to UPA’s land law.” The rally will be addressed by Sonia and Rahul.
