BJP’s campaign committee chief Narendra Modi and Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan launched an attack on Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for his remarks that he was ready to work in the Congress under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership.

“The PM talks of happily working under Rahul Gandhi’s leadership next year! Wasn’t he doing the same all these yearsIJ Misleading the nation againIJ” Modi wrote on Twitter. Chouhan also posted on the micro-blogging site, “Prime Minister of a great country like India says that he is ready to work ‘under’ somebody. Does it not lower the dignity of the apex postIJ”

The Opposition party also made light of the Prime Minister’s remark saying Manmohan Singh should first try to find out if the country was ready to accept the leadership the Congress vice-president. “The question is not who the Prime Minister wants to work under. The people of the country will have to decide if they are ready to accept Rahul Gandhi as Prime Minister,” BJP’s deputy leader in Rajya Sabha Ravi Shankar Prasad told reporters.

Party vice-president Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi pooh-poohed Singh’s statement saying there was nothing new in his statement as he had always been “remote controlled” by Sonia Gandhi and her parliamentarian son Rahul Gandhi.
