Delhiites on Friday woke up to another chilly morning with the mercury plunging into 4.8 degrees Celsius — season’s second lowest temperature — even as early morning dense fog affected about 50 north-bound trains. However, no diversion or cancellation of flights was reported.
This season’s lowest temperature was recorded at 4.2 degrees Celsius on December 22. The MeT Department predicted mainly clear skies during the day with the maximum hovering around 17 degrees Celsius — four notches below normal — while the lowest is expected between five and six degree Celsius on Sunday.
“Visibility was recorded as 700 metres at 8.30 am and the humidity recorded was 100 per cent,” a MeT official said. According to a Northern Railways official, 50 north-bound trains affected by the dense fog, include Bhagalpur Garib Rath, Magdh Express, Toofan Express, North East Express, Vikramshila Express, Janshatabdi Express, Shan-e-Punjab Express, Chhattisgarh Express, Jammu Mail and Purba Express.
The authorities had rescheduled the departure timings of few trains due to the fog, the official added. On Friday, the minimum temperature settled two notches below normal at 6.3 degrees Celsius and the maximum was recorded at 17 degrees Celsius. Meanwhile, the National Association of Street Vendors of India has alerted the Municipal Corporation of Delhi and New Delhi Municipal Council to arrange for adequate infrastructure to protect the street vendors from such unusual weather conditions.
