Mercedes hit-&-run: Victim's sisiter hopeful of justice

Shilpa Mittal is optimistic about getting justice for her brother Siddharth, who was mowed down by a speeding car in April this year. The 33-year-old business consultant was killed by a Mercedes car, which was being driven by a 17-year-old boy, who is about to turn 18 in four days.

She is pinning her hopes on the trial to take place in a lower court after hearing about the order passed by the Juvenile Justice Board on Friday, allowing the plea of the Delhi Police seeking to try the offender as an adult. While Shilpa and her father are happy about the order passed, her mother is under depression and is on medication.

Shilpa, who is also into film production, told The Pioneer that such incidents should never occur again. “The case is not about winning or losing, it is about setting an example in society. My brother will never come back but what happened with us should not happen to anyone else. Despite so many evidences, no action was taken earlier and things were taken lightly,” she said.

On how police did not book the accused under proper Sections, she said, “Initially, police didn’t book him under appropriate sections. Nobody was arrested for a few days. Police were careless untill we created hue and cry about their inaction.”
