A postgraduate student of radiology was found dead inside his car at RMl Hospital’s parking area on Saturday morning. Police suspect it as a case of suicide by injecting some poisonous substance to himself.

The deceased — identified as P Prakash, a native of Chennai — had joined RMl’s radiology department about two months ago, police said.

Prakash, whose duty hours were 9 am to 4 pm, left on Friday at usual time, police added. However, when a security guard of nearby Bank of Baroda branch, where he parked his car often, looked inside the vehicle he saw Prakash’s body lying on the front seat with no movement.

“The guard immediately raised an alarm and Prakash was taken inside the hospital where he was declared brought dead,” said the police. His body was sent for the autopsy but it could not be performed on Saturday as his family members have not reached yet, police added.

The police have registered a case under relevant sections at the local police station and are further investigating the matter. “We are questioning his colleagues in the hospital to ascertain if he was upset over something,” said a senior police officer, adding, “We also visited his house to look for clues.”  His family members would also be questioned in connection with the matter once they arrive in the city. Further investigations are underway.

The police added that preliminary enquiry suggests that he committed suicide by injecting some poisonous substance to himself. “What exactly he injected cannot be ascertained and will be clear only after the autopsy,” said the cops, adding, “We are scrutinising the CCTV footages at the hospital and nearby to get some clue about his movements.”
