Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati apprehends threat to her life from the Yogi Adityanath government, saying that some moves of the Bharatiya Janata Party point that efforts are being made to disturb the Dalit movement by eliminating her.
“During the caste strife in Saharanpur, it was suspected that the state government was trying to eliminate her. After they brought in a police officer as DGP, who was SSP of lucknow when the State Guest House incident took place on June 2, 1995, I am convinced that a plot is being hatched to get me killed and end the Dalit movement,” Mayawati said. “The officer in whose presence an attack was made on me has now been brought by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath and made the DGP. Is it not indication enough and does it not give rise to threat perceptionIJ” the BSP chief asked.
It may be mentioned that DGP OP Singh was the SSP of lucknow when the State Guest House incident took place.
Soon after her oath ceremony, Mayawati, as Chief Minister, first suspended OP Singh and later got a case of criminal conspiracy registered against him and other officers and personnel.
Taking on the BJP and the Chief Minister for raising the State Guest House incident, Mayawati said, “let them remind the episode as many times as they want but I want to make it clear that it will not affect BSP’s alliance with the Samajwadi Party. I cannot forget the incident but since Akhilesh was not even in politics at that time I do not have anything against him,” she clarified.
Mayawati alleged that the BJP wanted to create a wedge between Akhilesh and her as it feared that the opposition alliance could result in a humiliating electoral defeat for the BJP in 2019 general election.
