Man surrenders after smothering 'debauched' wife to death with pillow

Suspecting his wife’s fidelity, a man smothered his wife in her sleep in North-East Delhi’s Gokulpuri area late on Friday night. He then called up the landlord’s nephew Akash — who was presumably his wife’s paramour — and took him near a stormwater drain where he was stabbed over 10 times.

The accused Arun Chauhan worked as a taxi driver. He had recently been inducted into the Communications Department of Delhi Police as Head Constable. On Friday night, he got into an argument with his 36-year-old wife Kavita. Still smarting over his wife’s brazen adultery, Arun waited for her to fall asleep. He then used a pillow to snuff life out of her.

The following morning, he calmly told his schoolgoing daughter to take care of her brother and ensure he attended his tuition classes regularly. “He told his kids he had killed their mother for her debauchery and he was off to prison,” said a police official, adding, “He also thought his wife was giving her share of money to her lover”.
