A 35-year-old man allegedly killed his wife with a pair of scissors and then committed suicide by jumping in front of a train in East Delhi’s Gandhi Nagar on Friday.

Neeraj and Pooja, both in their 30s, had been married for past nine years. They lived in Kailash Nagar area of Gandhi Nagar with their sons — Yash (7), and Harsh (5). In a suicide note — written with blood on the couple’s bedroom wall — the accused blamed his wife for the extreme step. The note read, “I have killed Pooja. Now I am going to commit suicide. Pooja and her family are responsible for my death”. According to police, the cause of the alleged murder and suicide was an ego clash between the couple. The incident came to light on Friday around 8.30 pm when Neeraj’s sister Bhawna was informed by the couple’s children that their parents had indulged in a fight following which their father had left the house with stains of blood on his leg.

Bhawna rushed to their bedroom and found Pooja lying on the floor in a pool of blood and intimated police. Pooja was immediately rushed to lal Bahadur Shahstri Hospital where she was declared dead. “There were marks of stabbing on her face, neck, arms and stomach. It seems that the accused had used a scissor to stab her,” a police official said.  Both the bodies have been handed-over to the respective families after an autopsy. “The exact reason behind the murder, followed by suicide, is yet to be ascertained. Neeraj’s in-laws are being questioned and a case, under the relevant Sections of the IPC, has been registered,” said the official.
