A 32-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly masturbating in front of a German woman, who is pursuing PhD from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU), in south-east Delhi’s Greater Kailash, the police said on Saturday. The accused has been identified as Tarun (32).
The incident took place on Thursday around 2.45 pm when the 33-year-old scholar had taken her dog out for a stroll in Greater Kailash-II, they said. She stopped for a while when she saw the man looking at her in a weird manner.
However, when he looked away, she moved ahead. But as soon as she reached closer to where he was standing, he pulled his trousers down and started masturbating while looking at her, the police said.
“She shouted at him but before she could try and catch him, he drove off in his Maruti Ritz car. The woman managed to capture a picture of the car and its number plate,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police, south-east district, Romil Baaniya.
After the incident, the woman went to the police station and complained and based on that a First Information Report was registered under sections 294 (obscene acts and songs) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of the Indian Penal Code at the Chittaranjan Park police station and investigations were taken up.
“During investigation, efforts to trace the vehicle based on the registration number of the vehicle were initiated. The registered owner of the Anil Kumar Gupta, a resident of Faridabad, was contacted who told us that he had sold the Ritz car to one Pushkar of Hodel village,” said the DCP.
Finally, a police team reached Hodel village and located the white Ritz car and arrested the accused on Thursday night. Tarun was on Friday produced before a Delhi court that sent him to judicial custody.
