Police have arrested a 40-year-old man for allegedly sodomising and strangulating a boy in Northeast Delhi’s Harsh Vihar.
The accused, Ram Niwas, was identified after a tracking dog led police to the under-construction site where he was working. However, he was found to be on the run and was nabbed later, they added.
In the wee hours on August 12, a tea show owner informed police that his six-year-old son had gone missing on the evening of August 11 after he left the shop for home.
The man, along with his neighbours, searched for the child but he was not traced. The body of the child was found in a nursery, situated on way to the complainant’s tea shop on August 12, a few hours after a case was registered.
Police questioned locals and a tracking dog was taken around the area to gain clues to the accused, police said.
The dog took police to an under construction house and it was found that its security guard is missing. He was later identified as Ram Niwas, a resident of Bareilly, Uttar Pradesh.
Police teams were sent to Bareilly and regular raids were conducted on his hideouts but no clue was found, police said.
During investigation, it was found that he was previously involved in a similar kidnapping-cum-killing case at Welcome police station of 2009.
On friday, the accused was arrested near from Shamshan Ghat, Mandoli, police said.
After his parents died when he was young, Ram Niwas started working as a labourer and later shifted to working at a tent house in Welcome area.
In 2009, after he had a monetary dispute with the tent house owner, he kidnapped his six-year-old son, took him to Bareilly and killed him, said Deputy Commissioner of Police (Northeast) AK Singla.
He was arrested in 2009 and came out of jail in 2012. After that, he went to Sonipat and worked there as a labourer. After returning to Delhi, in 2017, he started working at a construction site where he was asked to stay the whole day and guard it.
He became friendly with the complainant and his brother’s grandson with whom he consumed liquor. On August 10 and 11, the construction work was not happening at the site and he had called the complainant brother’s grandson to have liquor with him, said the officer.
He was friendly with the complainant’s minor son since the latter used to bring tea for him. On August 11, he saw the boy crossing the site and called him inside. In an inebriated condition, he sodomised the boy. The child told him that he will inform his father about the incident. Scared Ram Niwas strangulated the boy, disposed his body at a nearby nursery and fled from there, said the DCP.
