The man who made a ransom call for Rs 20 lakh to missing Jawaharlal Nehru University student Najeeb Ahmed’s family was held, Joint Commissioner of Police, Crime Branch, Ravindra Yadav said on Saturday.
The accused, arrested from Maharajganj in Uttar Pradesh, will be brought to Delhi on transit remand.
“We are yet to verify his name as he is giving different names. We can get more information on further interrogation,” said the JT CP.
Delhi Police has announced a reward of Rs 10 lakh for anyone who shares information on Najeeb’s whereabouts.
Najeeb (27) went missing from his room in Mahi hostel on JNU campus on October 15 following a scuffle with fellow students allegedly from RSS-backed Akhil Bhartiya Vidyarthi Parishad. The incident triggered sustained protests by students forcing the police to launch a massive hunt.
However, the police have not been able to find a single clue till now about what might have happened to him.
