The Delhi Police on Saturday arrested a 50-year-old man for allegedly killing his wife by pushing her off the second floor balcony of their house in East Delhi’s Kalyanpuri area on August 21. Police said that based on local intelligence, Dilip, the accused, was arrested from the Karkardooma area on Saturday.
In a fit of rage, Dilip Kumar pushed off his wife lalit from the balcony in the Khichripur area around 8pm. Sources said that after pushing off lalita, Dilip managed to flee the spot and was absconding since then.
The incident took place at the Chaudhary Inder Singh Market in the Khichripur area on Saturday night where Dilip, the accused, used to live away from his wife. Since he was away from his family for the past few months, Dilip returned home.
Sources said that the couple used to quarrel over Dilip’s drinking habit due to which he went out of the house. He allegedly returned to his Khichripur house on Saturday night after five months. During this time, lalita was with her 11-year-old grandson while her daughter and her husband had gone out for some work.
Sources said that as per the statement of the couple’s 11-year-old grandson, who was present at the house during the entire incident, lalita got angry when Dilip came back home. This allegedly led to a heated argument between the couple which escalated into a scuffle and in the heat of the moment, Dilip allegedly pushed off lalita from the second floor balcony.
After this, Dilip fled from the spot. Police said that two locals who witnessed the episode rushed lalita to lal Bahadur Shastri hospital where she was admitted in the ICU. However, on August 22, lalita succumbed to her injuries during treatment.
Police had registered a case under relevant sections of the IPC at the Kalyanpuri Police station.
