A man was arrested on the charges of harassing and killing his wife and further disposing of her body at Ganga riverbed, police said on Saturday.
The accused was identified as Rakesh.
According to police officials, a PCR call was made at Vasant Vihar police station by Sunita’s brother Anand on March 17 regarding her missing. “We received a call about the death of Sunita while her brother also stated that his sister’s husband has gone missing with the deceased body,” said a senior police officer.
“Police registered a case at Vasant Vihar police station under IPC section 385 and hunt for accused was carried away,” added a police officer. The family of the deceased alleged that the accused husband carried Sunita’s body in a bag and travelled all across the capital to find a way to get rid of it. However, one of the family members said, “Police caught him on time; otherwise we were not even able to cremate our daughter.”
A senior police officer said, “We found the body on Ganga riverbed in Brij Ghat… The body was later sent for post-mortem,” while stating, “There were minor injuries on her body.” According to police, “The children of the couple indicated about the regular torture by Rakesh on her wife Sunita.” The accused was arrested under IPC sections 306, 498-a and 201.
