An avid reader of M&B, Mahi Jay has come up with her own M&B — Falling For A Bollywood legend. Shalini Saksena speaks with this new author
How does it feel to have your very own M&B out in the marketIJ
It feels surreal. looking back on the journey it started off as just a tiny bit of hope but now that the book is out I couldn’t be happier.
You are a management graduate. How did writing happenIJ
I’ve been an avid reader which my mother actively encouraged when I was younger. When I used to see images of people on the cover of books, I’d create characters and their complex situations.
I’d give it my own spin to see if the book was anything like I’d imagined it to be. It was a fun thing to do then. I didn’t realise until much later that I actually wanted to tell everyone my own story. Writing was my passion. I just had to do it, there were no two ways about it.
Do you think that Indian M&B authors was long dueIJ
I wouldn’t call it long overdue because I feel it is only been a few years since the Indian reader has become more open to lighter reading from Indian authors. I’d call it more of a welcome occurrence.
The many M&Bs have an Indian flavour to them. Will this have international appealIJ
Anyone who wants to know more about the Indian flavour will find it appealing. It offers an insight that is very authentic. You can’t go wrong with that.
Are you an M&B fanIJ How many have you readIJ
My first introduction to a romantic novel was when I was 14 and since then, I’ve read so many of them that I’ve lost count. Penny Jordan who is no more is one of my favourites.
Erotica has taken the market by storm. Will M&Bs be able to surviveIJ
There is always room for emotion, love and romance. Erotica is good for a thrill but when you want more, you can’t beat the fulfillment of a happy ending.
The one good thing about Harlequin Mills & Boon going Indian...
It’s nice to read books that are populated by Indian characters and set in an Indian milieu.
