Maharashtra Governor and Chancellor of Universities in the State Ch Vidyasagar Rao on Saturday terminated the services of Raviprakash G Dani as Vice-Chancellor of the Panjabrao Deshmukh Krishi Vidyapith, Akola, ‘with immediate effect’ on the grounds of the latter not being a citizen of India.
On a day when the Opposition
Congress clamoured for his resignation over the delay in the declaration of the Mumbai University’s results this year, Rao gave
marching orders to Dani as the
vice-chancellor of the Akola-based agricultural university on the basis of his not being the citizen of India.
“The decision to remove Dani from the post of vice-chancellor was taken after obtaining the opinion of the law and Judiciary Department of Government of Maharashtra, the Advocate General of Maharashtra and the Ministry of External Affairs,” a news release from Raj Bhavan stated.
