A 29-year-old woman has accused her live-in partner of sexually assaulting her for more than two years on the pretext of marrying her. The incident was reported from West Delhi’s Paschim Vihar area.

The victim, who is a researcher in archaeology, met the accused in Baroda on one of her research visits. The accused, identified as Neerav Panchal (31), imposed himself as a tourist guide and made the victim roam around the city. The victim later returned to the Capital and developed friendship with the accused over a social networking site. The bond grew stronger and the accused moved to the Capital and they started living together. In her complaint, the victim claimed that the accused raped her on several occasions. He promised to marry her, but denied every time she spoke about it.

“The accused later threatened her of dire consequences if she revealed the matter to anyone. He also told her that he was already married in Baroda. The victim approached the Paschim Vihar police station on February 22 and gave a written complaint. Her medical examination confirmed rape,” said a senior police official. The accused later fled from the city.

A case of rape was registered  and several teams have been formed to nab the accused. The accused was arrested from Baroda on Friday. He is being brought to the Capital on transit remand.
