Relationship is the mirror in which the individual-self’s personality trends are revealed. Given that the living world is framed as an interdependent organism, it is important for us to relate well to those around even for the sake of our bare survival. For, no individual is ever born capable of servicing even existential needs in one’s own right. One, thus, is dependent on support extended by society even for bare survival. Even while pursuing individualistic aspirational urges, one needs due support of all who matter. The paradox, however, is that every being is born unique, each manifesting varying mental predisposition — desire trends, likes and dislikes, habits and attitudes, prejudices and obsessions, virtues and attributes. The world thus remains a natural breeding ground of conflicting thoughts and interests. Answer lies in understanding life’s gaming rules. It calls for becoming aware of the dynamics of life in holistic terms, covering both macro and micro aspects. It has to be underlined that the world is premised on the concept of “unity in diversity”. So, relating well to all, ignoring few limitations in others becomes imperative. If one has certain limitations, there has to be many positives in one as well. So, the focus should be on getting the best out of them rather than being fixated to few negatives, which unfortunately happens normally.
What needs to be further underscored is that individuals make a society. So, individual personality trends too need to be watched out for necessary amends. Otherwise, it will become difficult to relate well to those around, but for which one may become subject to pains and sufferings.
