After Friday’s unprecedented vandalism and violence in the Kerala Assembly, the Congress-led ruling UDF and CPI(M)-led Opposition lDF are set to enter yet another phase of conflict over who all should face action for the ruckus in the House even as Governor P Sathasivam said that the 'unfortunate incidents' might even justify submission of a report by him to the President under Article 356 of the Constitution.
Endorsing effectively the Speaker's claim that the presentation of the 2015-16 Budget by tainted Finance Minister KM Mani on Friday was legal and as per rules of conduct of business, Sathasivam said he would inform the President of the unfortunate incidents on the floor of the Assembly. He wanted appropriate action against those responsible for the incidents.
The Thiruvananthapuram police on Saturday registered a case against Opposition MlAs for destruction of public property on the basis of a complaint lodged by the Assembly secretary that the vandalism caused losses of property worth Rs5 lakh. However, the police have not named anybody as accused.
