The Kerala CPI(M)’s Thrissur district leadership on Saturday decided to publicly censure party legislator KU Arunan for participating in a public function organised by the RSS in his Constituency, Irinjalakuda.
The decision to censure Arunan was taken by the Thrissur district secretariat of the CPI(M) on the basis of a recommendation made by the party’s Irinjalakuda area committee in which he is a member. The district secretariat had the other day sought an explanation from Arunan over his participation in the RSS programme.
The MlA had irked the party’s local, district and State leaderships by inaugurating a function organized on May 29 by the RSS Shakha at Oorakam in Irinjalakuda Constituency at which books and other study material were distributed to school students. A Congress Block Panchayat member, Thomas Thathampilly, had also taken part in the RSS-organized programme.
“The (Irinjalakuda) area committee had come to the conclusion that Arunan’s participation in the RSS
function — though it was out of some misunderstanding — was wrong. They had told the district committee that Arunan should be publicly censured for his lapse. The district leadership has approved it,” said CPI(M)’s Thrissur district secretary K Radhakrishnan said on Saturday.
Stating that the lapse from the part of the MlA was “very serious” and that it had brought disrepute to the CPI(M), Radhakrishnan said, “Arunan has been instructed that he should not take part in any public function without clear understanding about its nature.”
However, the party agreed that the explanation provided by Arunan was satisfactory.
