In his first meeting with the bureaucracy, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal allayed fears there was going to be witch-hunting. He assured them that nobody will be singled out. There may be bad officers but, there are good officers too; hence, all must work for making the Capital a better place. He asked officials not to repeat the mistakes committed in the past as he sought their cooperation. Addressing officials of the Delhi Government, Kejriwal said, “I am not a ghost. There is no need to panic. I read in the
newspaper that bureaucracy is panicking. Majority are good and honest officials. They do not need to panic.” “In my meeting with the officials, I told them to work honestly and in the interest of the people and then I will protect them,” Kejriwal said. There were apprehensions among certain bureaucrats, who were close to the previous regime, that they may be targeted by the new dispensation. The Chief Minister further stated that if anyone has had committed any mistake in the past, they should not be worried — but be honest, sincere and make the system corruption-free from hereon.
Officials said that Kejriwal focussed on honesty, sincerity and the issue of graft. “Kejriwal stated he does not have a magic wand and he needs support from all officials to fulfil his promises and relieve Delhiites of the corrupt system”.
