There is no love lost between Delhi Police and the AAP Government in the national Capital. The fact that daggers are drawn on both sides was clearly visible after the Delhi Government’s Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) arrested a head constable and a constable posted with North-East district’s Sonia Vihar area on corruption charges. Delhi Police questioned the powers of ACB and said that they have a vigilance unit for such issues. Delhi Police officers said ACB was acting at the behest of the AAP after they started probing the alleged suicide of farmer Gajendra Singh at the Jantar Mantar rally. The ACB comes under the Delhi Government and can investigate the officers and employees of the Government of the National Capital Territory of Delhi only.
The Delhi Government alleged that the Delhi Police is trying to save its men. Meanwhile, police charged ACB of breaching jurisdiction. Acting on a complaint of Delhi Government’s anti-corruption hotline 1031, the official of ACB conducted a raid on Friday evening in North-East Delhi’s Sonia Vihar area and nabbed a Delhi Police head constable Anil Kumar near his house.
According to ACB officials, assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Amar Singh and a constable Shravan Kumar managed to escape from the spot. They were allegedly demanding money from an accused for crapping his case. The accused head constable was posted at Sonia Vihar police station. “Complainant made a video recording of head constable demanding a bribe. Complainant registered a complaint against the head constable, ASI and constable at Delhi Government’s anti-corruption helpline and thereafter, action was taken against the corrupt police officials,” said an ACB official, adding the other two accused managed to escape from the spot.
Sources said that the family members of Anil, after being informed about his arrest, approached local police station where his wife told police that her husband was abducted by a few members in a car while he was going to meet with someone. later, on the instruction of senior officers, a case under section 363 (abduction) of the IPC was registered at Sonia Vihar police station on Friday night.
The case was registered on the basis of a written complaint by head constable’s wife Poonam, said the source. On Saturday, Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia said that the Delhi Police was trying to save their men by creating such hurdles. Meanwhile, when The Pioneer approached senior police officials, they claimed that Delhi Police has a vigilance unit which looks after the cases of graft in the force.
