JNUSU to march to House against Irani's statement

Jawaharlal Nehru University Student’s Union (JNUSU) has opposed HRD Minister Smiriti Irani’s statement about an “interim report referring the eight JNU students guilty on prima facie” by the high-level committee of the varsity. JNUSU vice-president Shehla Rashid Shora called for a march to Parliament on March 2 where the student’s union will approach Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, National Human Rights Commission and Minority Commission to raise the issue.

“The JNU students and teachers have repeatedly pointed out that this interim report of the JNU committee, prepared within 24 hours of its formation, violated all norms of natural justice and due diligence.  It suspended students without so much as listening to one word from any of the accused. It has relied on “evidence” from unauthenticated videos, many of which as we now know were doctored to slander JNU and JNU students,” Shora said in a Press conference on Saturday.

“The march will highlight concerns about stifling of dissent in JNU, HCU and elsewhere through sedition charges, and the continuing atmosphere of terror and intimidation as well as to raise our demand for Justice for Rohith and enacting the ‘Rohith Act’ against caste-based discrimination in educational institutions. The JNUSU will also appeal to all the associations and unions worldwide to hold an international protest day on March 2, 2016,” she said.

The JNUSU also questioned the MHA and MHRD on sending police inside the campus if “they were aware of JNU constituting an internal enquiryIJ”
