The forensic laboratory report obtained by the Delhi Police in connection with a case lodged against Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) PhD student Anmol Ratan for allegedly raping a fellow student has indicated that there is no incriminating evidence against Ratan.
The only evidence that police recovered is a sample of hair belonging to the victim, establishing a lot of flaws in the allegations of the complainant, said officials. However, the victim has now alleged that Ratan might have tampered with the evidence. Senior advocate Rajiv Mohan, who is appearing for Ratan, said the forensic report has established flaws in the allegations of the victim.
“But as the case is pending in the court I don’t want to comment more on this issue. We hope to get justice for our client,” Mohan tod The Pioneer.
A police source close to the investigation said forensic report was in favour of Ratan, who is currently in judicial custody. The source further said now if the victim wants to send Ratan behind the bars, she will have to come up with more evidences to support her claims.
“We have furnished this forensic report before the concerned fast track court. Now a lot depends of the testimony of the prosecutrix and a few others things,” the source said.
According to the charge sheet, the victim wrote on a social networking site, that she wanted to watch a movie and had asked if anyone had its CD. “Ratan had then messaged her saying he had a copy. later, he met her at a spot in the university on August 20 on the pretext of giving her the CD, took her to Brahamputra Hostel where he stayed, allegedly offered her a spiked drink and sexually assaulted her,” said the charge sheet.
