The Jharkhand Police has said its web portal is the fastest in the world, with a database of 16,000 Maoists and 19 Naxal and splinter groups active in the State.
Talking to the media at the State police headquarters on Saturday, Additional Director General of Police (ADGP) (Modernisation) SN Pradhan also spoke of an e-school programme for constables to make them tech-savvy.
It’s no wonder then that Jharkhand Police bagged the maximum awards at the SKOCH distribution ceremony, 2013. It displayed excellence in four different categories - implementation of ICT in policing, best web portal, crime & criminal information centre and Naxal information system.
DGP Rajiv Kumar has announced a prize of Rs 1 lakh for the team, saying, “I congratulate the team for this achievement.”
Jharkhand Police has been able to prepare an effective software with the help of a small team. “The portal developed during 2010 is the fastest in the world. It can also be used by any other organisation after putting its own content in it. We have offered other States its use too,” said senior scientist at the National Information Centre D Nayak.
Apart from Maoists, the database houses 70,000 people, including criminals and missing persons, with a facility for updating information. “Only user-generated contents have been used and no money has been spent on this exercise. The portal has a speed faster than Google at times,” added Pradhan.
Meanwhile, the e-school software will enable constables to judge themselves after an online quiz. They can repeat this exercise for improvement. The 55,000 constables of the State will also be provided email IDs, making communication simpler.
The department has also developed a personal information system, with which police personnel can monitor their service books online. In a related development, Pradhan also said Jharkhand will get 150 new police stations, along with some dedicated to cyber crime. Newly-appointed Sub-Inspectors (SIs) will now be deployed for operational work, instead of posting them at police stations.
Jharkhand Jaguars is to get Rs 75 crore for development on lines of the Greyhounds of Andhra Pradesh in the next three years. “Construction of a 150-acre camp has started and 40 policemen have been sent to Andhra Pradesh to get Greyhounds training. They are expected back in the first week of October, after which they will train others here,” said Pradhan.
The ADGP said that at the recent DGP’s meeting of Naxal-affected States, Jharkhand has been directed to improve its surrender policy as well as begin positive propaganda.
