When it comes to fun and entertainment, no one does it better than Balaji Productions. In their upcoming film, Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayee, the makers are leaving no stone unturned to ensure that the film delivers. While Palash Sen is roped in for a ‘spoof’ number, actor Siddharth Gupta makes his debut
Palash Sen
There has been so much talk around social networking sites that Palash Sen decided to dedicate his next number in Kuku Mathur Ki Jhand Ho Gayee to none other than Facebook!
“Phacebook pyaaris the funniest song that I have sung in sometime now. We (Tulsi Kumar and I) had a ball while recording for this number. The director wanted us to come up with a spoof on the social networking phenomena in India and we did just that. Phacebook Pyaar is done in a very haryanvi fun way to capture the interest of the audience. I love singing such numbers because there is a lot of creative license that I can explore. I put in a lot my original style in such type of songs,” Sen tells you, adding that Ekta Kapoor has been most supportive as a producer. “She has a vision and she inspires all of us to look at a film from her point of view. She has an amazing sense of music as well,” Sen who is at present working on his single titled ‘Walk On’, says.
Walk On is a number dedicated to the society compelling people to ditch their machines and put in some genuine physical effort. “It was a challenge to direct 250 artistes who were not from the filmy background. They were all IIT experts who agreed to feature in this unique experience. I am glad they did,” Sen says. He will also be seen romancing Ira Dubey in Aise Yeh Zahaan touted to be a fun film.
Siddharth Gupta
like any newcomer in Bollywood, this 24-year-old is nervous yet excited about his debut movie Kuku Mathur Ki Toh Nikal Padhi. For Siddharth Gupta who plays Kuku in the movie that is slated to release on May 30, the fact that the movie will finally be out is a relief. “Even though I’m excited about my venture, I’m also extremely nervous because a lot depends on this movie. For a newcomer to make an impact at the first go is important,” Gupta says.
Interestingly, this computer science engineer pass out from BITS Pilani, Dubai, despite being good in studies he never wanted a desk job. In fact, he tells you that he was fired thrice from three different companies while pursuing his internship. “I doubt there is anyone who has ever got fired while doing their internship. I’ve that distinction (laughs). I always wanted to pursue my passion — acting. I told my parents I wanted six months in Mumbai and if I couldn’t find a break, I would look for a job. I took acting classes, joined theatre. It was here, during a play in which I was playing a lead that I was spotted and the rest is history,” Siddharth tells you.
So, from theatre to Bollywood, the journey for this young actor has been something that he always aspired towards. From doing plays in schools to being on the stage during his engineering days, Gupta never thought that the audition that he was being called for by Bejoy Nambiar was for a movie. It was only after he had cleared it that he realised that it was for a movie. “It felt great to get a break,” he says adding that Kuku Mathur… is a must watch for all those who think that nothing is working for them.
The movie revolves around Kuku who can’t get anything right in life. “It’s about life’s quirky twists that are so realistic that people can identify with it. My character is very naive, he takes everything at face value and hence, gets taken for a ride. It’s his friend who keeps coming to his rescue. But then they grow up and part ways. Kuku finds himself at sea. He is from a middle class family and a loser. The film is a comic take on his life,” Gupta says.
He insists that every young person in the country should go see this movie and learn from Kuku’s life. Ask him which medium he prefers – theatre or movies, he tells you that each has its challenges.
“While in a movie one has the option of many retakes, the same isn’t true for theatre. At the same time, theatre allows an actor to convey things about his character through his tone, body language and gestures. This gets limited in films. To choose one over the other will therefore not be fair. For now, I want to concentrate on movies. But if a good role in a play comes up, I’m open to it,” he says.
As for his co-star and working with Balaji Productions, it has been a great experience. “We had lots of fun and working with the entire team was a learning experience. The best part was that director Aman Sachdeva knows how to get work out of those facing the camera for the very first time. He was extremely patience and eased the situation if it hit rough waters. For a new entrant, this is a big deal,” he concludes.
