At a time when the usage of the drug lysergic Acid Diethylamide (lSD) is on the rise among partygoers, especially youngsters in the Capital, the narcotics cell of crime branch of Delhi Police has arrested a 32-year-old Greek national who was organising acid rave parties in the upscale clubs of South Delhi. He organised around 20 raves in South Delhi and Gurgaon pubs in the last one month. The narks of Crime Branch were hot on the trail of lSD traffickers after the death of NRI student Anmol Sarna in South Delhi who took the recreational drug at a blowout. Police sources said the accused Emmanouil Chatzakis is famously known as DJ alias Malano in the party circuit. “The arrest was made by a team led by Inspector Sanjay Gade and Sub-Inspector Sumit Malik from Paharganj area following a tip-off from their informers,” police sources added.
After sustained interrogation, the accused Malano told investigators he was distributing lSD to youngsters by tearing off dose from blotter sheet. Each lick of lSD sold for Rs7,000. “One lick of the blotter acid gets you your fix. In many of the high end pubs in South Delhi, carrying cocaine and the MDMA (methamphetamine) drug is risky. It’s easy to conceal since doses are usually found on tiny squares of absorbent paper. lSD can be difficult to detect, because of the small amount ingested and the fact that it’s quickly metabolised by the body. Around 140 lSD stamp papers and 250 gm hashish have been seized from his possession,” police sources informed.
Investigation has also revealed that around four months ago, the accused Malano came to India and started drug ops in Bangalore. “He was conducting rave parties in Bangalore but left the city soon after Bangalore Police had arrested some bagmen of his gang. He later fled to Nepal and peddled drugs to Goa and Himachal Pradesh,” sources said.
During interrogation, the accused also told investigators that in January this year, he again came to India and started his cartel in Delhi. “With the connivance of some club owners and local pushers, Malano started organising rave parties in prominent clubs of Greater Kailash, Defence Colony, Saket and Nehru Place. At the same time, he was organising raves in the farmhouses of South Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida,” police sources said, adding investigators are looking for his cohorts.
Investigation also revealed that lSD supplied by the accused Malano and his candy men through a paper absorber made the blotter acid difficult to nose out. lSD is typically delivered orally, usually on a substrate such as absorbent blotter paper. “Malano told police that lSD, which is actually in a crystal or tablet form, is generally diluted before it is sprinkled on a paper or a visiting card,” sources added.
