In a bid to make things easier for UPSC and State Civil Services aspirants, a book, ‘Ancient and Medieval India’ written by Indian Revenue Service (IRS) officer, Poonam Dalal Dahiya was launched on Saturday.
The chief guest, Home Secretary of India, Rajiv Mehrishi and General Manager, McGraw Hill Education India, Tanmoy Roychowdhury unveiled the book at the Press Club of India.
To get the students’ nerve endings tingling with historical curiosity, the author at her best tried to crush down all myths allied to history. “I endeavored to dole out it in a platter more interesting and readable to the students,” she told The Pioneer. She believes history in a narrative style is strenuous to avoid reading.
Speaking in the event, Chief Guest, Rajiv Mehrishi said, “The book in a detailed format covers all aspects of Ancient and Medieval history in India and can be used as a one stop solution to prepare for the exams on these subjects.”
Ancient and Medieval India along with current and relevant content has been designed for candidates preparing for the Union Civil Services, as well as various state public service examinations. To make it more user-friendly, the book consists of numerous practice questions chapter wise.
To help students from knotty history, the entire history is summed up into two charts of ancient and medieval history, which is sure to help students for a quick revise before the papers.
“The detachable charts included that students may tear out and use as a mnemonic by placing them in front of them or pasting them on a wall.
Encouraging her determination, her guide spoke about how the penning of the book took a lot of effort, “While undertaking training, she used to take 20km tracking in the Himalayas, come back and discuss the next chapter, which is quite appreciating.”
Revealing the motive behind writing the book, Dahiya told The Pioneer, “There is a huge vacuum in the market when it comes to a good book in history. Huge syllabus makes the readers get bored and repetitive revisions end up in a lack of confidence among them. Thus the book in a well compiled way provides the required guidance to the civil service aspirants.”
Also speaking at the launch, Tanmoy Roychowdhury said, “The comprehensive content of the book was structured in a student friendly format after much in-depth research.”
“We are committed to providing well-designed self preparatory books and hope the book proves to be instrumental for both the civil services and state public service aspirants,” stated Roychowdhury.
Dahiya, expressing her gratitude told, “It is extremely satisfying to see one’s efforts take shape like this and make a contribution in other’s lives.”
The message she ended up with for students, “Anything done with dedication and smart work is sure to finish up in success. Believing in one’s abilities is just required.”
