Indrani hospitalised, doctors suspect drug overdose

TA day after former INX Media head and prime accused in the Sheena Bora murder case  Indrani Mukerjea was hospitalised, the doctors attending on her at the State-run JJ Hospital are trying to ascertain if she had an overdose of drugs at the Byculla Women’s prison where she is currently lodged.

Indrani, who was rushed from the prison to the JJ Hospital on Friday night after she complained of drowsiness and breathing problems, is in the Critical Care Unit (CCU) of the hospital. On Saturday, she underwent a series of medical investigations and an MRI and CT scans.

“We are carrying out several tests on her. She has just undergone a brain MRI. We are awaiting the reports. These reports will help us ascertain whether she had a drugs overdose or is it some other issue,” Hospital’s Dean Dr. S. D. Nanandkar said on Saturday.

Dr Nandgaonkar said that Indrani, who was brought to the hospital at around 11 pm on Saturday in a semi-conscious and delirious state, was responding well to the treatment “All her vital parameters are normal and her health condition  is stable,”  he said.

Dr Nandgaonkar said that after studying the reports of different tests and scans carried out on Indrani, the medical team attending on her would decide the further course of treatment.

It may be recalled that Indrani and other two arrested accused — Sanjeev and  Rai — had allegedly “kidnapped” Sheena between 6.30 pm and 7.30 pm on April 24, 2012, from Bandra (west) in their car.
