'Immigration sector needs to be regulated'

Published on:

With the rising cases of international human trafficking by sending people abroad from India through illegal means, mostly with some job offers, immigration visa consulting firms have raised concerns and called for tightening the noose on the immigration sector by bringing them into the radar of a regulatory body.

This sector, having an estimated turnover of around Rs10,000 crore annually, is predominated by over 95 per cent unorganised sector while less than 5 per cent are from organised platform with prescribed rules and regulations. The alarm raisers believe that if 95 per cent were brought under the wings of regulator, this would result in swelling up the size of industry exponentially and to wipe out the chances of human trafficking as well. “This sector is developing with extremely good pace and this the perfect time when the concerned Government agencies should chip in and regulate this sector by propagating the rules and regulations. This will, in turn, facilitate the sector to increase its image, authenticity and workability,” said Ajay Sharma, President of ABHINAV, a 22-year-old reputed firm which offers immigration visa consulting services.

Unlike India, other countries have separate immigration department that are regulated by the respective Government. But, unfortunately, India have not so far devised such regulator to tighten the noose on perpetrators who are swindling the gullible job seekers, in the name of Immigration,” Ajay Sharma said, adding that in the countries like Canada and Australia, the Government regulates the immigration sector and protects them most possible hardships and cheating.
