With the Uttar Pradesh Government somehow managing to end indefinite stir of Government employees on intervention of High Court, senior Samajwadi Party leader Ramgopal Yadav came down heavily on the agitating workers and said that had he been the Chief Minister he would have taught them a lesson for causing trouble to the public.

“State employees do not even put in work in keeping with  their salaries. Had I been in place of Akhilesh Yadav, I would have taught them a lesson,” Ramgopal Yadav claimed. He was in Etawah to inaugurate computerisation of Party’s district office.

“People are suffering due to inflation, almost half the population of the country is on the brink of starvation, and under such circumstances these employees are concerned only about their salary hike,” the SP general secretary said.

The employees had postponed their strike on the eleventh day on Friday, after the lucknow bench of Allahabad High Court agreed to monitor the talks between the Government and the workers about their 15-point charter of demands.

On mill owners adamant on not crushing sugarcane over high purchase price, Ramgopal said the Government was trying to work out a middle path as the owners said they were running on losses. “If the mills close down who will buy the sugarcaneIJ” he said, adding that the State Government is trying to work out a amicable solution to resolve the problem of both the mill owners and farmers.

However, he said that the Government would not compromise interest of farmers. Meanwhile, SP spokesman Rajendra Chowdhary announced merger of Peace Party (Basti District Unit) with his party.

“Entire unit of Peace Party in Basti district had merged with the SP,” informed Chowdhary here on Saturday evening. He claimed that all Block Pramukhs, Pradhans, District Panchanyat Committee members, Traders’ Association, officers bearers of Peace Party in Basti, along with thousands of youngsters, joined Samajwadi Party on Saturday. Chowdhary claimed that the joining has been made in presence of Cabinet Ministers-Raj Kishore Singh, Om Prakash Singh, Minister of State Ram Karan Arya and other senior SP leaders. Chowdhary claimed that he was also present during the joining.

Replying to a question on shoot-out at Varanasi in which a deputy Jailer was sprayed with bullets on early Saturday morning, Chowdhary said that his Government would forward adequate security to all jail staff. He also said that directions have been passed to senior officers to take necessary measures in this regard.
