Horror scares me: Sakshi

Published on:

She always thought horror is not her cup of tea but when Sakshi Tanwar got an offer for Ek Thi Nayika, she didn't have to think twice. She talks to SANGEETA YADAV about the show and her upcoming film

Is this the first time you are experimenting with the horror genreIJ

As an actor, I’m game for anything challenging and which stimulates me. When it comes to horror, I get scared. I have never been able to see horror movies in theatres. One day, I was shooting for some show late at night and a colleague told me that between 3 am and 4 am, spirits pay us a visit. I immediately told her to be quiet and not talk about ghosts. But that talk remained with me for the rest of the day and left me disturbed. That night, I suddenly woke up and the first thought was — I hope it is not 3 am. The only reason I accepted this project was to experiment in this genre.

Is there a difference between the promotions of Ek Thhi Daayan and Ek Thi NayikaIJ

I have not seen the movie but the TV show is totally different. It is going to highlight different aspects of a dayaan who is the subject of the film. The stories in Ek Thi Nayika are independent of each other. I don’t want to talk about my episode. It’s not been finalised yet. All I can say is that it will be the last episode. Since the movie and series are different, the promotions will be different too.

How do you see the amalgamation of TV as a medium for the promotion of moviesIJ

Due of the reach of TV and connection with the masses, Bollywood has eyed the small screen for promotions. Also, there are some big TV celebrities who have done wonders in films. So, the boundary is blurring now and both the mediums are overlapping.

Tell us about the movie you are doing with Sunny Deol.

Mohalla Assi is based in the 1980s in Varanasi. Sunny Deol plays a Sanskrit teacher and I play his wife Savitri Pandey. It’s an adaptation of Dr Kashinath Singh’s popular Hindi novel Kashi Ka Assi. We have just finished with the dubbing. Though I have done a lot of cameos in movies, my work never got recognised. This is the first time that I’m playing the main protagonist in this movie. I am hoping that I get the recognition this time and the movie has a positive impact on my career graph.

How did you get this roleIJ

After eight years in Kahaani Ghar Ghar Ki, I was planning a vacation when I got a call for this movie. I read the script and next morning I said yes. So the vacation could never happen because by the time I completed the film, Bade Achhe... happened.
