Remember Saanson Ki Zaroorat Hai Jaise... from AashiquiIJ After 23 years, the Bhatts have come up with Aashiqui 2 and Arijit Singh is their singing wonder boy this time. Singh is excited that he has landed with such a plumb project but nervous about how the audience will take to his songs. SANGEETA YADAV chats up with the talented singer

Critics may have dumped the film but the music of Aashique 2 is climbing the charts. It is soothing, has a melody and is directed dil se,” says Arijit Singh, who is known for his songs in Barfi and Murder 2. Aashiqui 2, he says, is a project that he had long been waiting for.

“Aashiqui was a musical hit and people went gaga over its songs. It is a challenge for me to keep up to that level but I have tried my best,” the singer from Kolkata says.  Copying a certain style has never been Singh’s forte, and even in Aashiqui 2 he has tried to infuse his own spirit.

“I can’t compare myself with Kumar Sanu and Udit Kumar who are veterans  in. I have learnt a lot from them. I won’t deny I was quite nervous about this project, especially when Mukesh Bhatt told me that he was depending on the music to make this re-make a commercial success,” Singh tells you.

He adds that the real inspiration behind Tum Hi Ho was Jeet Ganguly and music director Mithoon who supported him all through the project.

Given that he is only six films old in the industry, how did he manage this plumb projectIJ “It was luck by chance that Mahesh Bhatt couldn’t find a voice match for Aditya Roy Kapoor’s character in the film. Since he was aware of my style and intonation, he referred me to his younger brother. The rest is history,” Singh tells you.

When not recording music, Singh is busy assisting music director Pritam, something that has enhanced his singing. “The best part about Pritam is that he has a cool head over his shoulders. He never lets pressure get to his juniors. Sometimes, we stay awake for days to complete the mixes and masters of the track. But it’s always fun to work with him. I also like Vishal Shekhar’s style of working which is very different,” Singh tells you.

Arijit is planning to come up with  singles by the end of this year. “Albums are a passe. With the advancement of technology in the music industry, people believe in downloads more than purchasing an album,” he tells you.
