A 35-year-old assistant vice president in the recovery department of HDFC Bank Delhi’s ITO branch was shot dead in his car at Gurgaon’s Sector 5 on the intervening night of Friday and Saturday.
Police said the victim identified as Devavrat Singh, a resident of Sector 5, had received a gunshot to his left temple. He was found lying in a pool of blood inside his Maruti SX4 when a PCR van patrolling in the area found the abandoned car.
His family members told police that he generally came home between 8.30 pm and 9 pm but when he did not come home on Friday night, they tried to contact him on his cell phone. When the calls went unanswered, they surmised he might be busy at work. In the meantime, they received a call from Palam Vihar Police Station saying a body had been found in the car registered in their address. “Family members reached the spot and confirmed it was Devavrat. He was slumped in the driving seat, there was blood spatter all over the car. We have found a packet of crisps inside the car, which suggests more persons are involved in this misdeed,” said a senior police official.
According to the deceased’s brother Mayank Singh, he did not have personal rivalry with anyone he knew of. They have ruled out suicide since Devavrat was right-handed and the gunshot was to his left brow. However, police is questioning his colleagues, examining his call detail records (CDR) to find out who he had spoken to last. A case of homicide has been registered at Gurgaon’s Sector 5 Police Station.
